Specialist, Intergrative, Psychological GP

Hi everybody!
I currently work with two clinics.
Primarily I will be @ the Avive Hospital in Mt Eliza (Vic) four days per week,
but continue to see existing patients @ OneHealth Clinics.
I am only seeing new patients through the
Avive Specialist Suites (F2F ).
Sometimes, with my therapy dog Alfie.
I’m an Australian-trained GP who sees patients for a variety of conditions, although I tend to specialise in mental health, youth health, drug and alcohol addiction, and neurodiversity.
My treatment approach combines the best of Western Medicine, psychological therapy/focused psychological strategies (FPS), plant-based treatments, and practical lifestyle guidance. I believe the treatment of most symptoms lays in conversation and not necessarily finding a solution but dissolving the problem.
Before pursuing Medicine, I worked as a Youth Worker in a Drug and Alcohol Detox Unit, and I continue to support young people facing mental health and substance use challenges.
I am currently completing RANZCP's 'Certificate of Psychiatry' throughout 2025 and 2026.
Earlier in my career, I earned a Bachelor's degree in Behavioural Neuroscience from Monash University, followed by an Honours degree in Neuroscience from ANU. I then spent two years as a science presenter and completed a Graduate Diploma in Science Communication, during which I had the privilege of living and working with remote Indigenous communities.
I’m passionate about uncovering the root causes of illness and dis-ease. My consultations take an intuitive, organic approach, focusing on foundational health principles such as sleep, nutrition, exercise, meaningful relationships, purpose, and spirituality.
I look forward to meeting you soon.
Dr Nic 2026
I have come to understand that psychological suffering is not merely a collection of biological symptoms but as a disruption in a person’s relationship with themselves, their past, and the life they are trying to live.
I integrate medicines (pharmaceuticals, supplements, medicinal cannabis) and blood tests to exclude underlying biological causes, with modern psychological practice with existential and philosophical traditions, founded on an authentic, empathetic relationship as emphasised by Carl Rogers.
Early in treatment, patients are taught practical psychological skills to improve stability and day-to-day functioning. Drawing from CBT, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy, the initial phase focuses on emotional regulation, distress tolerance, and cognitive reframing. These skills provide a stable foundation, allowing deeper reflective and existential work to occur safely and effectively.
I encourage routine and embodiment through movement aiming to gently release older emotions as taught by Peter Levine. In time we might explore the patient’s parts as described in Internal Family Systems. My aim is to move patients forward and create momentum, persuaded by the call to self-overcoming from Friedrich Nietzsche and similarly the idea of Individuation of Carl Jung, all whilst confronting life’s existential realities (Irvin Yalom) and encouraging the defiant embrace of life despite its absurdity articulated by Albert Camus.
I am also informed by the practical wisdom of the Stoics who emphasised acceptance of what cannot be controlled and responsibility for one’s inner character, and thus find meaning in suffering emphasised by Viktor Frankl.
Within this framework, therapy becomes a relational and reflective space where patients regulate their nervous system, integrate painful experiences, and gradually align their daily actions with chosen values and meaning. Often, I find that we do not find a solution to the problem, but rather we dissolve the problem altogether.
The aim is not simply symptom reduction, but the development of a more integrated, self-directed, and resilient person capable of living deliberately and meaningfully in the face of life’s difficulties.
What makes my framework different is not one technique, but the integration of roles that are usually spread across several providers. Within one ongoing relationship, I combine traditional western medical care, psychiatric-style formulation, and sustained psychological work, alongside lifestyle and complementary approaches where appropriate.
I now see a smaller number of patients, with longer sessions and regular follow-up.
The aim is depth, continuity, and meaningful change.
